Breathly is a mobile app concept centered around aiding users in managing their mood.
I was tasked to identify a user need and design a solution in response to lifestyles changes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tools: Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator
The Process
Discover > Define > Develop/Deliver
Discover > Define > Develop/Deliver
Research conducted focused on lifestyle changes due to the pandemic.
It was found that individuals were struggling to adapt to changes such as increasingly virtual interactions, leading to loneliness, in addition to experiencing more negative emotions facing  uncertainty.

The Problem
How might we help users manage negative emotions?

Target User Segment
Ages 17-40
Attend school and/or work virtually
Limited time and effort
Concerns over stress and mental health

Discover > Define > Develop/Deliver
Persona: Alexis
Now works full time at home
Lives in shared apartment
Limited in-person social interactions
Stressed about long-term impacts of pandemic
Concerned over mental well-being
Goal:
Manage stress for healthy mental well-being

Context Scenario
Alexis is sitting at her desk after a long day of calls and emails. After finishing work, Alexis is alone in her room thinking about the friends she hasn’t seen, remembers she has a wellness visit tomorrow, and what to eat for dinner among other things. COVID-19 has made Alexis feel lonelier than usual—in addition to being concerned over the health and safety of those she cares about. Combined, all of these things that Alexis is thinking about makes her feel increasingly stressed. Alexis then tries to find a chance to relax. While she would normally pick up her phone and start scrolling through her social media to distract herself, Alexis wants to take some time instead to cope with her discontent. Earlier this morning, Alexis downloaded an app to help manage her mood.
Alexis opens the app, Breathly, and is able to log in to the secure app using her fingerprint. Alexis then uses the exercises function. It first asks her to note how she is feeling right now. Alexis then rates her mood and writes down why she feels that way. Then, the app tells Alexis to do a breathing exercise. Once this is complete, the app asks Alexis if she feels better, the same, or worse than she did before the exercise. Alexis feels a little better and selects that option. After this, the app lets Alexis track her usage of the exercises feature as well as how she feels before and after. It shows a graph with ratings, and Alexis selects the day and time of the first session to review. Alexis exits the app.

Solution
The proposed solution is to combine meditation and journaling through a native mobile application platform.
Why?
Mental health professionals suggest meditation and journaling as ways to document, reflect, and manage stress.
A native mobile app allows for quick, convenient, and private access for users.
